Vikings Attack, Europe Under Siege![]() By: Sir John of Canterbury
UNITED KINGDOM In the past moon, Vikings have attacked all over our beloved United Kingdom in an attempt to conquer or destroy. These attacks began in Ireland and continued on to England and Scotland. They have plundered and looted monasteries in all parts of Europe. In Ireland, they are taking women and children as their slaves, including the daughter of Lord Acerlot! Our scouts say that she was out for a midday stroll before tea, and her guardian knight was off duty. The barbarians attacked the beautiful village she was walking through, and she had not the time to return to the castle! “How unchivalrous of those Vikings, to take a woman unprotected!” comments Sir Gallop of Horsington on the subject. He is the Knights’ Code curator and rule-enforcer for all of Britain and Ireland. Lord Acerlot has a cavalry of knights out searching for the vicious Norsemen, but so far to no avail. He is notifying his brother, Lord Macinsword, in an attempt to acquire more aid in finding his beloved daughter. Three days ago in England, you will recall, three ships landed in Dorset. Assuming the strangers had come for trading, a reeve of Dorset was sent to welcome the travelers to our humble country. His greetings were returned with a knife in his chest. He died, and the murderers sailed away. “What fiends!” Sir Bacmon comments. He was not present on the scene, but stumbled upon the poor man a few hours after the incident. The Great Mortality![]() May 2nd, 1348
Lady Lynessa ENGLAND- Two moons ago, Edward III declared: The Great Mortality has begun! God is punishing the sinners of our land! Villages are no longer seen due to an unknown, terminal illness. Entire families have died out. It seems to be much more severe during the spring. During the winter, although nothing has changed, there is less sickness and despair throughout the land. In addition, victims of this horrible epidemic appear to have red ring shaped spots with dark centers on their arms and necks, and unusually high fevers. Victims may also vomit, have mental disorientation, or physical pain. If you have any of these symptoms, or know someone with these symptoms, beware. The conclusion has been made that these symptoms most likely lead to a very sudden death. It would seem this is unfortunate enough, but there are food shortages, because of the devastating weather that has wiped out our crops. Throughout the past year, rain and cold have destroyed our food sources. To make matters worse, we have grown in population, creating less food for the people of our land. Now that the “great mortality” has come, we are desperate for food and ways to survive. New Pope in Town![]() By:Lady Glenna
ROME: The College of Cardinals have named Innocent III, formerly known as Lotario de’ Conti di Segni, as the new pope! The 37 year old pope has hopes to the restore papal power in Rome and bring peace among rival aristocrat factions; Innocent III also wishes to gain the people’s respect. Word has it that Innocent III is currently planning a fourth crusade against Islam, but his plans seem to be changing. The Magna Carta is Signed!![]() By: Nalin Naranjo
RUNNYMEDE: The Magna Carta was signed yesterday in Runnymede by King John. Runnymede is a water-meadow in the county of Surrey. It is located by the River Thames and is now popular due to the signing of the magna carta. King John is the King of England, he is the youngest of the five sons of King Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine. He was the favorite son of Henry and was given land in england and other places as a child. Many of his barons were upset with his fiscal policies and treatment of most of england’s powerful nobles. Nobody enjoys taxes, and that doesn’t exclude the barons. Taxing the nobles will not go unnoticed. |

“At least have the decency to stay and fight, rather than come with no purpose but to kill and leave without a fight! What cowards!”
Yesterday, in Iona, Scotland, the majestic monastery was raided and practically destroyed. This monastery was a very special and sacred place for the people of Britain, not only Iona. These very same Norsemen as before not only took over 400 pounds in gold and jewels, but carried off six sheep and two heads of cattle. Three young children were swiped from their Sunday prayer and made to be slaves for these vicious Vikings. What a sad day at Iona. Donations can be made to the monastery and its victims at www.stopthevikings.uk.org to help in the restoration of this sacred place, or like us on Helmetscroll to recieve carrier pidgeons with news on the matter. Newscaster Samuel Redsmith gives his opinions on this barbaric matter later in the paper. Advice to the reader: stay away from the coasts and keep reading later this week for ways to keep yourself and family safe and Viking-free. Alas, we have determined practices to avoid the catching of this “great mortality.” Locking doors, burning the dead, or unpleasant smells such as dung or urine may be the answer, because bad smells drive out the plague. To keep out the smell of the dead, carrying flowers may also help.
“Nothing can be said for sure,” said Edward III. “One must have caution, and together we must find the cause of this horrible disease.” Peasant Onfroi coming from India brought a rumor that a plague started in China and spread through Asia, Persia, Syria, Egypt, and India, finally reaching our land. Onfroi also claims that India has depopulated, as we are now. Could this mean we are not the only ones experiencing such things? “We are doing the best we can to treat the victims of this mysterious illness by giving them herbs of various kinds,” Said doctor Frederick Smith. “This may ease their pain and relieve the symptoms.” Currently, the dead are being placed near the city walls until mass graves can be dug. Until then, we must behave in a calm manner and eliminate distress so that this crisis may be resolved. The election of Innocent III was against the deceased Celestine III’s recommendation of electing Giovanni san Paolo as his successor; Lotario was reluctant to accept the papacy, but in the end he couldn’t refuse. Sir Sedrick openly complemented the new pope, “He has a wide sense of responsibility and and of his authority.” Innocent III told us that he is determined to protect “the liberty of the Church.” “Why should the king tax us? This is injustice!” says an anonymous noble “Are we not better than that? We are the nobles of England! ”
Confronted by 40 rebellious barons, he didn’t have much of a choice. As they negotiated about the baron’s disputes with the King, they finally agreed on the Magna Carta. Although this is their agreement, we suspect that it will not end well. The Magna Carta is an important document that will affect our daily lives. Some rights that we have heard will be protected in this document are that no person can be imprisoned, outlawed, banished, or destroyed without violating the law of the land. Another right that will be enforced is that no one can sell, deny or delay justice. When we asked the barons why they wanted King John to give his consent to the Magna Carta, they told us that they wanted their rights and their land to be protected from a tyrannical King. Now that they have succeeded, the rights and property of the people are now protected. |

Sir Isaac Mistington, of Hadrian, En Malta, died Sunday, August 3,1568 in Bishopthorpe Palace Health Center after a short fight against the Black Death.
Born in Hadrian, En Malta, February 4, 1536, to Baxter and Thelma Mistington, Sir Isaac was an excellent jouster and a talented craftsman; he won his first and only tournament in 1555 in Williston, UK. At age 20, Sir Isaac married a beautiful wife, Lady Victoria of Hartwell, and they had three children soon after. They were always together, and had a wonderful family. Poor Victoria is now a widow that will always remember what a wonderful husband she had, and must help her children move on and accept the past. They will be exempt from all obligations for the next fortnight to mourn the loss of their beloved husband and father. We would like for all to remember the wonderful, yet short life of Sir Isaac Mistington, and help his family let him pass on from us. Please send your condolences via carrier pigeon to help support the family through this hard time. The funeral service will be held at High Noon on August 15, 1568 at Lake Ridge Cemetery. Jules Hadrian, of Penstentine, Ireland, recently left us on August 10th, 1568. He died of the measles, a commonly curable disease that was not treated early enough and so led to this young soul’s demise.
Jules, born on December 14th, 1558, was 10 at the age of his death. During his life, he lived in the Commons of England, one of the many not-so-nice areas to live, but he lived with a wonderful family and had lots of friends. He had just begun attending Manuel’s School for Boys during the week when he was eight. He had four brothers that were also attending, and three sisters that stayed home to help their mothers. Jules was a very nice neighbor to all and was always kind and helpful to whomever needed it. We will miss him very much. His funeral service will be held on August 24, 1568 at the Masters’ Funeral Home and Cemetery. Comments: |
Lady Novela Booklery, of Wismont, Scotland, passed away on Monday, August 16, 1568. She died of old age, being almost 56.
Born in Wismont, Scotland, Lady Novela traveled far and wide spreading health and happiness among town she visited. She was a nurse to the well-known Scott Hambleton of Kingsley for almost 30 years. She was well-loved by peasants and nobles alike, as she had a wonderful personality and was a downright wonderful soul. Lady Novela was never married, for she found marriage trivial, but she was asked many a time for her hand by many a fine gentleman. She has no children, of course, so her few belongings will be left to Scott Hambleton to care for in her honor. We would like to acknowledge the wonderful life and legacy that Lady Novela Booklery led, and rest assured that she will do well with Him. Her funeral service will be held in the Witonski Gardens outside Buffalo Manor on Thursday, August 19, 1568. |

Blog:Eleanor of Aquitaine has seventh child with second husband! Eleanor, known for her work in the Second Crusade, first married Louis VII of France. They had two children: Mary of France and Alix of France. Because she failed to have any male children, their marriage was annulled, meaning that it no longer had any legal existence.
Next, at age 30, Eleanor married Henry II of England, and has had six children: Guilhelm, Henry the Young King, Richard I of England, John I of England, Matilda of England, and Joanna of England. She has just had her seventh child, Eleanor of England, in the past moon. I hope that all her children will not interfere with her work in the Crusades! Her baby shower for Eleanor of England will take place this moon, and all are invited. Read on later in the moon for exact dates and times. |
