New Entertainment Craze Sweeping the Countryside
Sire Brendan Ward, Staff Writer Greenlake - A new entertainment craze has been sweeping the nation! A mathematician by the name of Lord Sam of Greenlake has created an intense game of strategy, romance, and backstabbing! Okay, we may be over-exaggerating here. The key to the success of this game seems to be it’s simplicity, ease to re-create, and depth. First, the simplicity; the game has easy to understand rules and very simple basics. Second, the reproducibility of the game. The simple checker-grid board and basic round pieces can be made by any peasant with free time on their hands. Finally, there is the depth; the game is simple at it’s start, but those who wish to can go very deep into the strategy can go there. Rumor has it that in little more than a fortnight, some of the greatest minds in the area will be gathering for a competition of sorts. No word has been said yet on the venue, exact date, and who will be in attendance. As of the writing of this article, the new game has achieved widespread success as far east civilization lies, and as far south as Rome. None have ascertained precisely why it is so widespread. Perhaps it’s success is due to the universal-ness of it. This game has uniform pieces that make sense to everyone (unlike chess) and no words etc. are involved. Anyway, here’s what only a handful of the many fans of this new game are saying. “I love it. I am obsessed. On the surface it looks like such a simple lil thing, but once you start actually using your noggin, it gets so much more complicated.” “This game is exquisite. Every match is unique and I find myself looking forward to my next game eagerly.” Will of the Next Generation by: Alucard The newly coronated Archduke Oz Vessalius has been taking outrageous countermeasures against encroachment upon his fiefdom. Many of his subjects are opposed to these actions, and they openly criticize them. “Vessalius is taking things too far!” said his chamberlaine, Sebastian. “I have no idea what caused the change inside of him, but suddenly he’s taking this too far! If we’re not careful, everything could turn out to be disastrous!” Archduke Vessalius has been fortifying his army and his fief’s defenses, and he claims it is all for the sake of self defense. “My father told me, on his deathbed, that I should protect the fief with my life. I am merely heeding his words. Besides, even if no one attacks, what’s the problem with having bulked up defenses, anyway?” The Archduke soon got his answer. The surrounding fiefdoms began to become uneasy with such a growing power amongst them, and they, too, began to build up their military strength. Soon, it was a full-scale arms race, with none of the nobles backing off enough to ask, “why are we doing this?” Everything exploded yesterday when one of a neighboring fief’s patrols accidentally crossed into Vessalius’ fief, and was attacked viciously by one of his patrols. The remaining men staggered back to their Baron, Baron Nicholas Frederickson, and told them what had happened. Baron Frederickson has yet to make a public statement, but many fear that war is on the verge of breaking out in England. |
