Recently, a mere kitchen boy at King Arthur’s castle in Camelot was knighted and went on an adventure which resulted in his marriage.
Gareth, the lowly kitchen boy has been working as that occupation for an entire year under Sir Kay’s guidance, who was definitely not afraid of giving him hard work to do. Secretly, the dish boy has been training mercilessly at perfecting his combat skills.
When Gareth arrived at the castle he asked for three favors, using two at the time. One was to be fed and housed and another was to work in the kitchen. That was one year ago, and a week ago he cashed in his third to be knighted by Sir Lancelot and to go on his first quest, which is to aid Lynette and save her sister from multiple knights.
Lynette was disappointed that someone as lowly as Gareth was being sent to save her sister and refused to have anything to do with him. On his departure he was knighted by the one and only Sir Lancelot. In the midst of his journey, Sir Kay came to stop Gareth because he disapproved of a kitchen boy going on a quest. Kay was defeated almost immediately by Gareth.
Kay, who we are delighted to have heard from, commented, “I felt pretty foolish when I found out. I used to call him nicknames like ‘Fair Hands’ and ‘Beautiful Hands,’ and now he’s one of the most skilled knights in Camelot.”
The first knight Gareth ran into was the black knight, who was not strong enough to defeat Gareth. He victoriously put on the defeated knight’s armor, and tricked the green knight into thinking it was his brother. The green knight was quickly overcome and swore his allegiance to the king.
Finally, after triumphing over the two multi-colored knights he challenged the last red knight who has Lynettes’ sister. By this time Lynette learned to accept Gareth as a strong warrior, and began to like him.
The red knight, the final challenge to Lynette’s sister, was as strong as seven men. The heroic Gareth discovered that the knight did not want to fight him and convinced him to fight for King Arthur.
The strong knight married Lynette and revealed that his parents are Lot and Morgan, and he is of royal blood. Sir Kay had this to say: “I really suspected he was royalty the whole time, I just didn’t want to make myself look bad.”
Sometimes even a kitchen boy can aspire to become something great.
Rebirth of Camelot
By: Sir. Strong Spalding - Udolf
Camelot has a new King, young King Arthur. He successfully pulled the sword out of the stone.
One witness says he saw the young boy jump off his horse in front of the church around midday. “ I was running late to the tournament when I heard the young boys horse. So i opened the door to see what was going on and then I saw the little child with the sword in hand. He looked around, making sure no one was watching him or had seen what he had just done. He took off in a burst of speed and went to the tournament grounds.”
Another witness at the tournament grounds said, “ She saw the little squire bring the sword to the knight. Then the knight went this father and showed him the sword. He couldn’t believe what his son was showing him, and a joyous smile struck the man's . But the knight pointed to the little boy and the man couldn’t believe it, he told the boy to bring the sword back.”
After this word spread that young Arthur had pulled the sword out, but many did not believe, so all the knights in all of Britain came to the church to try and pull the sword out, but to no avail. So the father of Arthur, told him to try again. So Arthur walked up to the stone and without even trying he pulled the sword straight out. Everyone stood in astonishment as the boy held the sword in his hand. No one could believe it, this little squire had pulled the sword out of the stone, while all the other knights could not. Arthur had rightfully become the king of Britain.
In an interview with Kay, Arthur’s brother, he said “ I couldn’t believe what Arthur had done twice. When he first brought me the sword I thought that it was just another sword, but when I looked at it closer i realized this was no sword it was the sword that was in the stone. I thought I was dreaming. So i should the sword to my father just to be sure. He couldn’t believe it either, he was so excited he wanted to know how i got the sword, and when i got it. But then i told him that Arthur i brought it to me. He grabbed the sword and raced over to Arthur he handed him the sword and told him to put the sword back in the stone. I guess he wanted someone else to be the king. After a couple of weeks we all went back to see if someone had pulled the sword out of the stone, but no one. So we told Arthur to try again, and he pulled it straight out without even breaking a sweat! When he pulled out the sword people were stunned and astonished. Then when realized what had happened, this young boy had just become king of England. people were furious, they did not want a little boy to run the country. But I guess they just had to deal with it.”
Unknown Youth Conquers Jousting Tournament By: Cecily Zantorian June 1292
The fight, adrenaline, and bravery of knights, once again, brought the people together for a recent jousting tournament. Courageous knights from all over the land came together for this event. The joust even attracted some of the greatest knights of all. Varying from Sir Lancelot to Sir Jaques de Molay. However, out of all the knights there was one in particular that stood out. His name is unknown to all and he chooses to remain anonymous. The boy came in as an underdog, but did not remain so for very long.
The entire arena was stunned when a boy no older than 14 years of age walked into the tournament. Many knights snickered or sneered at the very sight of him thinking he was not fit to joust. The first few opponents were those who had had past experience and were even quite good. However the arena went quiet, with the exception of a giggle here and there, when the 14 year old knight mounted his horse with his face masked the entire time. His opponent was Sir Bruin of Camelot, a pretty skilled knight. The crowd grew wild as both knights charged each other. Then, what the crowd believed unthinkable, happened.
With a certain degree of strategy, the young anonymous knight hit Sir Bruin’s shield out of his grip. Sir Bruin retaliated with a strong slash of his sword which left both of the men dismounted from their horses. The battle continued on foot and the masked knight was quick and had better strategy than anyone had ever seen. Soon enough, the knight flung Sir Bruin’s sword across the arena. He left Sir Bruin unharmed, and continued on with other opponents.
Opponent after opponent faced the mysterious, young knight but absolutely no one could defeat him. The last knight to joust was the greatest of them all- Sir Lancelot of Camelot. The joust dragged on until both men were dismounted from their horses, where the anonymous knight nearly overtook Lancelot, but Lancelot retaliated quickly. Just as Sir Lancelot seemed to have won, the anonymous knight slipped out from underneath the sword of his opponent. The knight wounded Lancelot and left him of the ground. Lancelot asked of the knights name but the young knight mounted his horse, leaving the tournament. The champion who had defeated the greatest knight of all left without a trace- not a name or a face or even a word.
Two days ago, sir Lancelot and Lady Guinevere were allegedly caught kissing in a storage room in King Arthur’s castle. The famous knight has always been known to have feelings for the lady the lady, but nobody knew they were having a secret affair. The person who witnessed the two is none other than Arthur’s son, Mordred. Arthur, according to one knight who will not be named, said that “There will be repercussions for their actions.” Who knows what he means by that? All we can expect is trouble.
This pesky love triangle will without a doubt be heard about in more detail later this week. For more information, tune in tomorrow, or watch the video below.
Queen Guinevere was getting ready for the Pentecost feast and I, well I was helping her get prepared for it. She was just newly wedded with King Arthur a few years ago. I was one of the maids in charge of helping her. We often found her getting lost in the castle still, but not as much that we needed someone to direct her somewhere anymore. She was exhausted today and had been sighing a lot today. She had a hint of bags under her eyes, but never the less did it show unless you counted her sighing; you’d never know she was tired .
She was sluggishly moving around from one place to the next. We were getting behind schedule and were trying to rush the queen to the next thing, but to no avail. She had duties to attend to and we weren’t getting anywhere. We tried bringing her duties to her, but it wasn’t always an easy task. Sometimes it was impossible. She had to check on many things so that she would be assured that everything was going alright for the preparation of Pentecost.
Queen Guinevere started with 25 things she had to do today and so far we’re on 10. It was nearly noon and the Queen was still slowly moving around. All the maids tried to figure out what was making the Queen so tired today, but we couldn’t figure out anything. All we could do was urge her to what she had to do next.
We were halfway done with the things she had to do. Next up was a meeting with an old friend of her’s. They met on an every other day basis. Queen Guinevere’s friend was Lady Mabill. Lady Mabill would come over and visit the castle to talk to the Queen. They don’t see each other as much since they live quite a distance from each other after the Queen was wedded with King Arthur.
Each and every time Lady Mabill came with some sort of gift and the Queen was always delighted. I’m guessing this was the highlight of her days. Being Queen of Britain didn’t require her to do much as the King would have to. The Queen usually finishes her daily duties before nightfall if not any earlier, but today seems like we have a problem. We weren’t any closer to finishing what she had to do today. So we had to delay some things until tomorrow because she couldn’t work for the afternoon and night because it was Pentecost.
While Queen Guinevere continued talking to Lady Mabill, she suddenly fainted. All of us maids close by rushed to our Queen to see if she was alright. I watched closely as the other maids tried waking her up and figuring out what had just happened here. I had a photographic memory so observing things would do me some good some day.
I looked around for every detail I could. Her face was smack down on the table, her eyes looked as if they drooped down to her cheeks and she had paled to the degree where she could’ve been mistaken as a vampire. The Queen’s mouth was slightly parted with brown crumbs sticking to her lips.
Brown crumbs...? Did we serve them any brown treats? I looked around the table and saw a mini basket adorned in colorful ribbons. Inside was a few small spicy fig pies that had the most sweetest tangy scent. I was about to reach for one when I noticed the Queen’s hands were limply hanging off the edges. I looked down to find something small and the ground that probably had fallen from Queen Guinevere’s hands. I bent down to retrieve what had fallen only to find that it was a fig pie that had a bite out of it.
As I looked up from the corner of my eye I saw Lady Mabill tense as she saw me pick up the fallen fig pie and examine it. I looked at her for a brief moment and looked away as I discreetly put the bitten fig pie into my pocket. Lady Mabill let out a visible sigh of relief and quickly snatched the little basket of fig pies when she thought no one was looking. Boy, was she wrong.
I was watching her the whole time because she just seemed suspicious. Her actions weren’t right. Now that I think about it, Lady Mabill wasn’t concerned, panicked, or worried about her old friend. She was actually nonchalant about it. Which was weird.
The commotion in the room got me out of my thoughts and all the maids quickly split in half. One half went to see Lady Mabill out and the other half, which I was in, went to bring Queen Guinevere to her bed. Once we all put her in bed, I was put to the task of getting Merlin here, by the head maid’s orders.
I quickly scurried through the halls and took sharp turns and ran straight to Merlin’s chamber. I knocked a few times and the door creaked open. He asked me to state my business and I did. I told him that the Queen had fallen ill and that she was lain on her bed. He nodded his head and told me to lead the way to the Queen’s chambers.
When we got there Merlin quickly scrutinized over Queen Guinevere and came to a conclusion quickly. He told us all that she had been poisoned and asked if we knew anything because he couldn’t heal her till he knew what type of poison was used. I hesitated for a minute and then approached him and told him of my suspicions of the fig pie and Lady Mabill.
Merlin seemed stunned for a few seconds at my outburst of what I thought, but he didn’t stay stunned for long. As quickly as his astonishment came, it went and was replaced with his regular brooding face. He thought for awhile and told me to hand him the fig pie. I grabbed the fig pie out of my pocket and handed it to him.
All the maids watched as he took a whiff of the fig pie and tore a piece off and crushed it. The fig pie crushed into ashes and black smoke. Merlin reluctantly threw away the ashes and told us to get out. I’m guessing he found out what the poison was and shooed us out of the room, while he did his magic.
A few hours later the Queen was all better and it was perfect timing because the Pentecost feast was just about to start soon. We quickly got her all prepared by making a bath and having her clothes ready. She rushed to her warm scented bath and we gathered all she needed and waited for her to finish her bath.
Once she was ready for the feast she thanked me and during the feast she told King Arthur of my deed and he rewarded me with gold coins and Lady Mabill was caught and put to the dungeon.
