Hello, my name is Lauda Shadowmere. I am a local reporter and today I will be interviewing Merlin the great Wizard! Hopefully you will find out things you didn't about him before. I had a great time interviewing him so I hope you enjoy!
Lauda Shadowmere: What is your real name?
Merlin: My real name is Merlinus Ambrosius.
Lauda Shadowmere: Who are your parents?
Merlin: My mother was a mortal woman and my father was the incubus.
Lauda Shadowmere: Have you ever almost been killed?
Merlin: Only once by King Arthur’s half sister Morgan le Fay. She wanted me dead so I could stop warning Arthur of the danger ahead.
Lauda Shadowmere: How old are you?
Merlin: Technically I don't have an age because I am a wizard.
Lauda Shadowmere: How many times have you saved King Arthur?
Merlin: Many, many times. There are too many occasions to count. Although he doesn't always listen to me, I love Arthur very much. I am basically his guardian angel.
Lauda Shadowmere: How did you get your powers?
Merlin: I got my powers from my father because he is a demon.
Lauda Shadowmere: What did you do before you were Arthur’s guardian angel?
Melin: One of the things I did was to bring the stones from Stonehenge to Britain because Uther Pendragon's brother wanted the stones for his castle. This is how I met Uther Pendragon and became great friends with him which is why I am Arthur’s guardian angel.
Lauda Shadowmere: Do you use your powers only for good?
Merlin: Yes. Of course. Unlike like Arthur’s half sister Morgan le Fay who uses her powers for evil. We are great enemies as she has the same powers as me.
Lauda Shadowmere: Did you have to learn how to control your powers?
Merlin: Only a little bit. I only had to learn potions and healing methods because that is a part of being a wizard.
Lauda Shadowmere: Do you have a family?
Merlin: Yes. I have a wife named Gwendolin and no kids.
Lauda Shadowmere: Where do you live?
Merlin: I live in a lot of places but when I am with my wife, I live in Stirling, Scotland, UK.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Who has the best Horses in town? By: Lauda Shadowmere Every knight needs a beautiful horse. In the countryside there is a place called Mereck's Horse Stand. It is the best place to get all types of horses. Any color or breed you name that you want, you’ll get it. Mereck, the owner is very trustworthy and knowledgeable about horses unlike the guy down the road. His place is called The Old Horse Express. The owner is Gerardus and is very inexperienced compared to Mereck.
I have been to both places several times and prefer Mereck’s Horse Stand over The Old Horse Express. When I went to Mereck’s I could easily find him and his volunteers to help me whereas at The Old Horse Express I had to search around for anyone to accompany my needs. When I finally got help at The Old Horse Express, the volunteers seemed unhappy and annoyed when I asked to see some horses. When I finally went into the stable, there wasn’t a big selection of breeds. Also their horses seemed unhappy like they wanted to be set free and become wild probably because of the poor sanitary condition .
However at Mereck’s Horse Stand, the volunteers were very knowledgeable and helpful in showing me all their breeds. The horses looked happy and I was told that the horses get to run around and graze in the huge field every two hours so they won’t be stressed out. Because the horses get to blow off some energy, his horses are much healthier too with a shiny coat and beautifully brushed hair. Also they had at least 20 different breeds in every color whereas The Old Horse Express has half the amount.
As you can see, Mereck’s Horse Stand is a much better place to buy a horse than at The Old Horse Express. The Old Horse Express is dirty and unsanitary for humans and the horses. Plus they barely have a volunteer staff and have terrible service. All in all if you want better service and a better horse, go to Mereck’s Horse Stand in the countryside.

This week a lot of drama has been going on throughout the town. Aside from the usual knights and horses riding around, there was an actual fight in the town square between the peasants and the knights. While the knights were entering the square, some peasants got fed up with the knights riding around on their beautiful horses. So, the peasants started throwing garbage at the knights. So much garbage was thrown that the knights got down from their horses and drew their swords. More garbage was continuing to be thrown so, the knights started to swing their swords. A few peasants had tiny knives which proved useless against the shining blades of the knights. In the end only five people were injured.
Another fascinating story this week was that one of King Arthur’s knights got married. Sir Bruin got married to his lovely wife named Maria. They are hoping to have kids very soon and Sir Bruin hopes to have a boy so he can teach him how to be knight.
Did you know that Princess Katherine of Chichester is coming to town to pay a visit to King Arthur? How exciting! She will be arriving Saturday afternoon.

The Plague Strikes Again
By: Lauda Shadowmere (London, 1349)
The epidemic has swept across England once again. Over the weekend approximately 200 more people have died from this deadly disease according to the local doctors. There is really no way to avoid this. You usually contract it by getting bitten by fleas and bugs and rodents carry it around on the streets as well . If you are receiving symptoms expect to die within the week. There is currently no cure.
Some of the symptoms of the disease is a very high fever, vomiting, bleeding in the lungs, muscular pains, hallucinations, and buboes. (Inflammatory swelling of the lymphatic gland.)These will appear in the armpits, legs, neck, or groin. These are red at first but then turn a dark purple or black. If you have it, you will definitely know. (To the right)
Some ideas people are throwing around is that we need to clean up our cities. Maybe sweep up the streets and put our garbage into some sort of container. This way the rats and rodents will have a lesser chance of eating the trash. Also we should avoid eating food with bite marks in it because that rodent could carry the disease.
Scientists believe the epidemic has spread here in London because our city is very crowded and dirty with around 70,000 people. Also since we have the river Thames, the ships that come by bring more disease. According to physicians our city’s living quarters are filthy. We need to change this so that we can keep the people who don’t have it healthy.
Apparently, the youngest, poorest and oldest die first. If you can not afford a doctor, then you shall be placed in open communal pits with other people. This is very unsanitary but we have no place for the sick. So, expect to die soon if you are placed in one. Good luck to you all and stay healthy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Arthur Gains Excalibur By: Lauda Shadowmere
(Camelot)
Over the past week our King, King Arthur has been very busy. Last Tuesday a young page of Sir Miles rode into the castle. Sir Miles was slain by a mysterious knight in the woods. The young page asked “Is there a man here brave enough to avenge his death?” Then a young squire stepped forward. His name is Griflet and wished to become a knight to defeat this mysterious knight. King Arthur knighted him and off Griflet went.
According to Griflet there was a sign that read, “Whoever passes this way does so at his peril.” So angry by the death of Sir Miles, Griflet knocked down the sign. Then the mysterious knight came out of his tent and said, “ Who dares strike my sign.” Griflet said, “It is I.” The knight told Griflet to be on his way because he is too young and inexperienced but Griflet refused and wanted to fight. The knight mounted his horse stung by the bold taunts of Griflet. Both men had their lances at the ready and rode full tilt ahead at each other. Griflet barely made a dent in the knights armour while the knights lance struck deep into his left side. The knight placed Griflet back on his horse and the horse rode back to Camelot with Griflet severely injured.
King Arthur was so upset that he got his armour on and rode off into the woods where the knight was. “Who are you?” King Arthur demanded. “I am Sir Pellinor and if you wish to pass me you must fight first.” Then the men positioned themselves and rode at full speed ahead on their horses. Because of their tremendous speed both of their lances broke in two. The men jumped off their horses and grabbed their swords. For a while they were evenly matched until Arthur blew such a mighty stroke that his sword broke in half. Arthur stood there defenseless. With a huge cry Sir Pellinor threw himself at Arthur and knocked him to the ground. The men exchanged words and Sir Pellinor was about to cut off King Arthur's head until Merlin intervened. Merlin put his hand on the sword and explained to Sir Pellinor that this is King Arthur. Sir Pellinor was so startled, Merlin used his magic to put him to sleep. Merlin then took King Arthur to a hermit in the woods that would heal his wounds.
After three days Arthur realized that he didn't have a sword. So Merlin took him to a broad blue lake. In the middle of the lake was an arm draped in smooth white silk holding a sword in its hand. As they watched the arm, a lovely maiden rose out of the water and came walking lightly across the lake. Merlin told Arthur that this maiden was called the Lady of the Lake. According to King Arthur the Lady of the Lake told him that he may have the sword called Excalibur and the scabbard if when she asked him for a gift, he would give her one. King Arthur accepted and took a magical boat across the lake and took Excalibur and the scabbard. King Arthur now has the best sword in the land and no matter how badly he is hurt, he will not shed one drop of blood as long as he wears it at his side.
